Our verdict

FTMO is one of the longest-established prop firms, with a well-documented two-step evaluation, clear rules and a large trader community. It suits forex and CFD traders who want a predictable evaluation over aggressive marketing.

Pros

  • Long track record and transparent rules
  • Wide platform choice
  • No time limit on evaluations
  • Choice of 2-Step (static drawdown) or 1-Step (trailing drawdown)

Cons

  • Evaluation fees are higher than some newer competitors
  • CFD-based — no exchange-traded futures

Overview

FTMO pioneered the modern two-step evaluation model. Traders pass a Challenge and a Verification phase, then trade a funded account with a profit split.

Evaluation rules

Rule2-Step1-Step
Profit target10% (Challenge), 5% (Verification)10%
Maximum daily loss5% of initial balance3% of initial balance
Maximum loss10%, static10%, trailing at end of day
Minimum trading days4—
Consistency—Best day ≤ 50% of total profit

On a $100,000 2-Step account, that means a $5,000 daily limit and a fixed $90,000 floor. The 1-Step is faster but stricter: a $3,000 daily limit and a floor that rises with your highest end-of-day balance. Size every trade to the daily loss limit — the position size calculator makes this quick.

Who it suits
