How pip value is calculated
A pip is the standard unit of price movement: 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen.
Pip value (quote currency) = Pip size × Units
The result is in the pair’s quote currency, then converted to your account currency. On EUR/USD, one standard lot (100,000 units) × 0.0001 = 10 USD per pip. On USD/JPY, 100,000 × 0.01 = 1,000 JPY per pip, which at a price of 150.00 is about $6.67.
When pip value changes
If your account currency is the quote currency, pip value is fixed. Otherwise it moves with the exchange rate, so recalculate when prices have moved significantly — especially before sizing a position with the position size calculator.
