How profit and loss is calculated
P&L = (Exit price − Entry price) × Units for a long trade, and the reverse for a short. The result is in the quote currency and is converted into your account currency.
Expressed in pips: a long EUR/USD trade from 1.0850 to 1.0910 gains 60 pips. At 0.5 lots ($5 per pip) that is $300.
Use it before you enter
Run your stop and target through the calculator before placing the trade. If the loss at your stop is more than your planned risk, reduce the size — or use the position size calculator to get the exact lot size first.
