USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, which makes it the most common crypto for funding a trading account — the balance doesn’t swing with the market while it is in transit. Sending it is simple, but mistakes are permanent. Follow these steps.
Before you start
- Check the broker. Look up its licence on the regulator’s own register. With crypto there is no card chargeback to fall back on, so the broker’s regulation is your main protection. Our guide to brokers that accept crypto deposits explains what to check.
- Check deposits and withdrawals. Confirm the broker also withdraws in USDT, on which networks, and with what fees and minimums.
Step 1: Choose the network
On the broker’s deposit page, select USDT and note the network it supports — commonly TRC-20 (Tron) or ERC-20 (Ethereum). TRC-20 transfers are usually much cheaper. Your wallet or exchange must send on the same network.
Step 2: Copy the deposit address
Copy the address with the copy button or scan the QR code — never type it. Check the first and last four characters in your wallet before sending. If the broker shows a memo or tag, include it.
Step 3: Send a test amount
Send a small amount first, for example $10–$20, and wait for it to appear in your trading account. Only then send the rest.
Step 4: Wait for confirmations
The broker credits your account after the transaction reaches its required number of network confirmations. Keep the transaction hash (TXID) — support will ask for it if anything goes wrong.
Step 5: Test a withdrawal early
Withdraw a small amount back to your wallet before you trade size. It proves the round trip works and shows the real fees and processing time.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Result |
|---|---|
| Wrong network (e.g. ERC-20 to a TRC-20 address) | Funds may be lost or need manual recovery |
| Missing memo or tag | Deposit not credited automatically |
| Sending Bitcoin instead of USDT | Price risk while in transit; may not be accepted |
| Skipping the test withdrawal | You discover withdrawal rules only when it matters |

Frequently asked questions
Which network should I use to send USDT to a broker?
Use exactly the network the broker's deposit page shows, such as TRC-20 (Tron) or ERC-20 (Ethereum). Sending on a network the broker does not support can lose the funds.
How long does a USDT deposit take?
Usually minutes once the transaction has the number of network confirmations the broker requires, plus any internal processing time at the broker.
Can I get my USDT back if I send it to the wrong address?
Generally no. Crypto transfers cannot be reversed, which is why you should copy the address directly, check the first and last characters and send a small test amount first.
