What to look for in your first challenge

  • Static over trailing drawdown. A static floor never moves, so a winning week doesn’t tighten your room.
  • No time limit. Deadlines push new traders to over-size.
  • A small account first. Start with the cheapest size to learn the rules, not the biggest.
  • A daily loss limit you can live with. Risk well under it: 0.5% to 1% per trade is common.

Beginner prop firm FAQ

Which prop firm is best for beginners?
Among the firms we rate, FTMO and The5ers suit beginners best thanks to static loss limits and no deadline. Topstep is the beginner-friendly choice for futures.
Should a beginner start with a large account?
No. Start with the smallest size to learn the rules cheaply, then scale up once you pass.
Is a 1-step or 2-step challenge easier?
2-step challenges usually have looser loss limits; 1-step challenges are faster but stricter.
